2 days: 20 hours
This course will provide instruction and practical exercises focused on the specific needs of the police rifle/carbine operator. The course includes the use and application of the patrol rifle as it pertains to Law Enforcement and the skills to properly maintain it. Students will gain hands-on experience with their patrol rifle/carbine.
This course will consist of long days of training with a great deal of information passed along. The purpose of this course is to stress you both psychologically and physically so you will gain confidence in yourself and your equipment. Dress appropriate for training and the weather. Bring all mandatory equipment, if you should have questions about equipment please check with the Independence County Sheriff's Department before hand. We require that you bring your lunch with you to the range due to the time restraints.
The class will include, but will not be limited to the following topics:
- loading and unloading
- stoppage/malfunction clearance drills
- reloading drills
- transition drills
- principles of marksmanship
- patrol deployment
- use of cover and concealment
- shooting on the move
Mandatory Equipment:
- Rifle/Carbine with Sling, 2-3 Magazines (3 Magazines preferred)
- 1000 rounds of Rifle/Carbine ammunition
- Pistol with 3 magazines
- 250 rounds of Pistol ammunition
- Duty Belt, Holster and Pistol Magazines Pouch (Leather or Nylon)
- Ballistic Vest (Concealed or Tactical Carrier)
- Eye and Ear Protection
- Appropriate Clothing (BDU’s or 5.11’s)
Optional Equipment:
- Knee / Elbow Pads
- Hydration System
- Food
- Sun Screen / Bug Spray
- Wet / Cold Weather Gear
